Destination Wedding in St. John’s, Antigua | Virginia Wedding Photographer
Very early on in my business, and recently within the last year, I spoke out loud of my dream to travel abroad and shoot a gorgeous, destination wedding for an amazing and sweet couple. Chelsea and Ivan made that dream of mine come true last month; we traveled to the beautiful island of St. John’s, Antigua, to capture their nuptials. I am going to need someone to pinch me even now, because I still cannot believe this was totally real and actually happened!
Chelsea and Ivan exchanged their vows on the beach during the hour before sunset, surrounded by their very closest friends and Chelsea’s family members. These two met in 2010 through work and dated long-distance for five years (YES! FIVE YEARS Y’ALL!) until they were finally in the same city again, when Chelsea moved to Charleston, South Carolina to be closer to him. Ivan proposed to Chelsea on Thanksgiving Day in 2015 with all of Chelsea’s family there to be a part of it and congratulate them!
This was probably the smallest wedding I’ve ever photographed, but it was certainly not lacking in love and joy. Chelsea and I go way back – back to our Literal Hottie days in Virginia Beach, VA. We met because we both joined a book club in our area to meet other ladies, and of course read some great, new books! Chelsea and I clicked right from the start, and I can’t really explain how touched I was when she asked me to photograph her and Ivan’s destination wedding at Sandals Grande Antigua.
I photographed their engagement session last year in Charleston (my favorite little Southern city ever!), and my time with them then was absolutely amazing! I knew from the moment she asked that this was going to be an unforgettable experience! And it truly was! I am honored to have been a part of their wedding day, and I am so grateful to them and their families for bringing me along to capture their precious memories. My sweet friend, Sarah Houston, was able to join me on the trip, and I am so thankful for her!
I love the Passport-inspired wedding invitations from Wedding Paper Divas that these two went with for their special day!
And I certainly can’t be mad at the fact that tons of their engagement photos are in them too! 🙂
Ivan went with a very unique and custom-made ring, from international company, Dexter Rings! I love it; so masculine!
Time for a father-daughter first look…
(y’all know how much I love those!)
It was such a sweet moment! Chelsea expected her father to be teary, but he was all smiles! He was SO incredibly happy to see his little girl as a beautiful bride hairstyle by addcolo!
Chelsea’s amazing bridesmaids were so sweet, and it was such a pleasure to spend the day with them and share so many laughs together!
And now the girls are off to the ceremony…
While it was hot, humid, and a little rainy on their big day, nothing was going to stop Chelsea from walking down that (very sandy) aisle to join Ivan.
They are finally married!
Accommodations provided by Sandals Grande Antigua!
I wouldn’t mind traveling back here one day! It was GORGEOUS, and the beauty of Dickinson Bay was UNREAL!
Congratulations, Chelsea and Ivan!!!
This is a beautiful new chapter in your lives. I want to wish you both SO much love and joy!
