Derby Day-Inspired Blush and Green Wedding at Glenview Mansion in Rockville, Maryland | MD Wedding Photographer
Grace and Ben exchanged vows in the garden at the gorgeous, historical estate Glenview Mansion in Rockville, MD last month. It was a rainy, yet perfect day. Due to the rain, we did take advantage of Glenview’s art gallery spaces. Give me a gorgeous subject, an all-white room with tons of windows, and I will be so happy! We had planned on portraits being outside for the day, but we worked with what we had, and I actually love the results! The blush and green florals from La Fleur du Jour and BHLDN bridesmaids’ dresses POP in that art gallery room!
I had the opportunity to work with a stellar creative team for their wedding day, including my best friend Rachel of The One Moment Events. She is so talented and cares so much for each of her couples. We had a blast!

Ben and Grace are such a fun loving couple. I knew from the moment we first spoke to their engagement session in Old Town Alexandria that their wedding day was going to be a special one! Grace recently graduated from Georgetown University with a PhD! YES! She is now Dr. Grace Buker, and she had a ball when her and Ben were announced as Dr. and Mr. Buker on their wedding day! What a fun way to celebrate two AMAZING life events, right?!
He’s from Kentucky; she’s from Boston. They met at a mutual friend’s Derby party, so naturally…their wedding day had several nods to Derby Day, which was so fun and unique! From the ticket-like invitations to the fun ceremony programs to the signature Mint Juleps (there’s a story there too 😉 read below from Grace on how they met!), there were many unique details and ways these two incorporated things they loved and I LOVE when couples do that!!!
From the Bride:
“How We Met: I was having lunch with my friend at the campus bar, Tombs, at Georgetown, and she ran up to this handsome man all dressed up in his suit, earpiece, and badge and introduced me to Ben! They had gone to high school together. She asked him if he was coming to her Derby party the following Saturday, and he said “Yes!” And that he was bringing his parents. So that naturally meant that I had to go too. I arrived at the Derby party that Saturday, was told to go make myself a mint julep and had no idea what to do. Then I see out of the corner of my eye Ben’s mom, Pat, give Ben a nudge and say “Go make her a mint julep.” And the rest is history 🙂 Thanks Pat!
Proposal Story: I was elbow-deep in my dissertation and just generally overwhelmed so I had NO idea this was happening. Ben and my sister had planned the proposal to happen when we were visiting my sister and her family in early February. A huge snow storm had hit Boston (of course delaying our flight) and once we got there, Ben suggested that we take my 2year old nephew sledding at my favorite hill at my favorite park in the town I grew up in. At this park, you can see a perfect skyline of Boston. We were going to meet my sister and nephew there because they had some errands to do beforehand. Once we got to the park, the best sledding hill was packed with teenagers and was too busy for a 2 year old’s sledding fun, so I recommended we go to my tree where I used to do homework under and play with my family dog. We trudged over there and were taking in the view when Ben told me he had an early Valentine’s Day present for me. He takes out “Our Adventure Book” (from Up, which we had just watched earlier that week). I was just overwhelmed with how sweet and thoughtful he was that it didn’t even register to me that this could be a proposal. Once I get to the end of the scrapbook, he says to me there’s one more page and in the “Stuff We’re Going to Do” Section, the last page says, “Get Engaged!” …Then my sweet man gets on one knee and asks me to spend the rest of my life with him. Apparently I screamed “OF COURSE!” but don’t ask me because I completely blacked out. Oops! Adrenaline is a hell of a thing :)”
I mean….how could you not love just these two?!
Enjoy some favorites from their Derby Day wedding in Rockville, Maryland!
We sort of did a “first look” with Grace’s bridal party! I loved all of their sweet smiles seeing Grace in her wedding dress and ready to marry the love of her life!
Finishing touches and some bridal portraits before the first look 🙂
Grace looked absolutely STUNNING in this piece by Carolina Herrera!
The rain started to come down again, so we made our way back into the art gallery space! It got such gorgeous light!
Time to get these two married!
Alright….now it’s time to party!
